Heys open 2018 with a trip to New Mills on Saturday (3pm).
This will be the first tme the clubs have met at North West Counties level but it marks a revival of an old fixture. The clubs have met 31 times over the years primarily in the Manchester League but also during the mid to late seventies in the Cheshire County League.
The Millers have had the better of those encounters, winning fifteen of the matches played, with Heys winning seven and the other nine drawn.
Ironically, the majority of those wins for New Mills came in the days when Heys were in their pomp in the late sixties, early seventies.
The last meeting was on the 20th April 2004 in the Manchester League Premier Division when two goals by Woodcock and a further strike by Uddin gave Heys a 3-0 win at Church Lane.
It's a result Heys would love to replicate on Saturday as they look to maintain their promotion push. After a rocky period of four defeats, Jon Lyons' team appear to have got back on track in recent weeks, collecting seven points from their last three games. Victories at home to Bacup last weekend followed an impressive away win at Carlisle City and a draw at Holker.
Kicking off the second half of their League programme, Heys will be anxious to maintain that momentum. A slow start to the New Year cost them dearly last season, leaving them too much to do in the congested end of season run in.
They face a New Mills side who have had a rollercoaster of a season. Some heavy defeats have been mixed in with some impressive wins, 2-1 at Litherland and 3-2 at Alsager Town for example. Their season was perhaps enscapsulated in their last home game on Boxing Day. Losing 2-0 at half time to Stockport Town they roared back to win 4-2 with Jake Pollard, Dennis Sherriff (2) and Nathan Neequaye on the mark. The latter pair have been responsible for 21 goals, in all competitions, between them this season.
Not being able to put a run together sees New Mills sit in 15th place with 24 points from 20 games. Seventeen of those points have come from eleven games at Church Lane.
