It's Macron Cup action at Adie Moran Park as Heys welcome St. Helens Town for a 1st round tie. (7.45pm.)
It’s only three weeks ago that the teams met at St. Helens in a League fixture with Heys coming out 2-0 winners.
However, after a slow start to the campaign, St. Helens have since shown signs of finding their feet. Three successive wins followed that loss to Heys and they pushed an inform AFC Blackpool side all the way on Saturday before succumbing to a 3-2 defeat.
They will come into the game with confidence, looking to progress in a competition in which they reached the 3rd round last season. Victories over Darwen (4-2), and Eccleshall (5-3) set up a tie with Premier Division high fliers Bootle. Frost forced two postponements, meaning Saints lost home advantage and when the game was played at Bootle, the hosts ran out 5-0 winners.
After a 1st round home win over Litherland REMYCA (2-1), Heys were beaten 3-1 at home by eventual winners City of Liverpool in the Second Round last season.
Although League success is the priority, Jon Lyons will be hoping his team can go an extended run this season. Heys come into the game in good form with last’s Fridays’ 4-2 win at home to Chadderton making it six games unbeaten, five of which have been won.
If the scores are level after 90 minutes the game will be decided by a Penalty shoot out.
