Seven successive league wins have propelled Jon Lyons’ team from 10th up to third as they bid for a minimum top five finish as part of their bid to move up to the North West Counties League.

The run has also stirred hopes of another possible title challenge and the Heys boss will be looking for his team to continue their form when the Lees based side roll up in Prestwich on Saturday.

It has been something of a stop start season for Springhead but in recent games they have showed signs of gaining some consistency with four wins out of their last six outings.

Added to that run is a 2-1 win at Wythenshawe Amateurs last weekend in the Gilgryst Cup whilst the sequence also includes a 1-0 win over Royton. No mean feat keeping their Oldham rivals goalless

Matches between Heys and Springhead have always been tight affairs from the time they battled out it for the 1st Division title in 1987 up to the present. Heys did the double last season winning by the odd goal in nine up in Lees before a nervous late season evening at Sandgate saw Heys win 2-1.

Heys will be hoping for a more comfortable afternoon on Saturday.
