Reserves travel to Govan

With an improved forecast, Heys will look to return to action on Saturday at home to AFC Blackpool looking to return to winning ways. (3pm)

It’s been three weeks since Heys last kicked a ball when losing 4-0 at Widnes in the 1st Division Cup, their fourth successive defeat.

They will be hoping the enforced break has refreshed minds and bodies and will bring about a return to the form of early season.

It was in those sunnier days that Heys travelled to Blackpool and returned with all three points, playing some sparkling football, in a 5-0 win.

Their performance at Widnes last time out was in stark contrast. A disjointed and tired looking performance suggested a team that had hit the wall, injuries having caught up with them.

In their worst run of form for many a season, Heys have lost ground in the promotion race and although they have games in hand on all the teams above them they need to arrest their slide quickly if they are to keep their ambitions alive.

Happily, Danny Taberner, Danny White, Adam Tse and Michael Itela have all returned to training and will be in contention for places alongside new Striker signing Brian Matthews.

In looking to restart their season Heys will face a Blackpool side who have found it hard going so far this season. Relegated from the Premier Division last season they have started from scratch having seen many of that squad move on.

The early weeks of the campaign were particularly difficult with some heavy defeats seeing them prop up the table.

Things have steadied though and they are presently third from bottom with eleven points from twenty games, five points clear of the relegation spots.

Heys Reserves have also been hit by the weather in recent weeks but remain out in front at the top of the Manchester League Division One.

Their lead has been cut to two points and they will travel to Platt Lane to face Govan Athletic looking to recapture some of their early season form after a run of one win in the last four.

Govan are third from bottom with five defeats in the last, including a 6-2 loss at Heys at the beginning of October.
