Hindsford the next challenge for Jon Lyons' men

On Saturday, Heys travel to a side who have made that top spot their own in the Manchester League for the past three season’s – current Champions Hindsford.

Heys victory over Springhead last Saturday lifted them to the top of the Premier Division Table.

On Saturday, they travel to a side who have made that top spot their own in the Manchester League for the past three season’s – current Champions Hindsford.

It’s a huge game for both teams.

Hindsford go into the game needing to win to keep their hopes of a fourth successive title alive. They trail Heys by ten points with six games in hand and second place Stockport Georgians by nine with only one match in hand. The next two weeks sees them face both those sides.

The Tyldesley based side cannot really afford many more setbacks having endured a turbulent few weeks.

Their manager Barry Massey stepped down three weeks ago and they enter the game on the back of a run of two points from their last four games, the last of which was a 3-2 home defeat at the hands of Elton Vale last Saturday.

It’s a run Heys will hope they can add to as they seek to maintain pole position and further their promotion prospects. Although Jon Lyons side have played more games than anyone else a run of nine wins in the last eleven has seen them shoot up the table and put pressure on the sides below them to win those games in hand
.
A win on Saturday against one of that chasing pack will further enhance their hopes.

It will be the third meeting between the teams this season. The other two were in the Atherton Charity Cup with a 1-1 draw at Adie Moran followed by a 2-0 success for Heys at Squires Lane.

The personnel in this weekend’s game will differ from those meetings and the stakes will be much higher.

The teams have enjoyed a great rivalry in recent seasons and played out some memorable matches. Saturday promises to be another.

Kick-off at Squires Lane, Tyldesley is 2pm.
