Reserves away at Breightmet.

Heys begin the New Year with a trip over the Pennines on Saturday to face Silsden (3pm).

It’s a game that brings Jon Lyons’ side up against the team that presently top the 1st Division Form Table with five wins out of the last six.

Two of those games have been in Cup Football where the Keighley Road Stadium side have had eye catching home wins over Premier Division high flyers 1974 Northwich (1-0) in the Macron Cup and a Halifax Town side (3-1) in the West Riding Cup.

In the League, wins at AFC Blackpool (6-0), at home to Bacup (2-1) and last Saturday at Atherton LR (1-0) have seen them climb up to 16th in the table with 21 points from 21 games. The only defeat in that sequence came at home to Sandbach (1-2).

It is the latter whom Heys are in immediate pursuit of as they bid for a play-off place. The Cheshire side presently occupy the last slot in sixth place with Heys in 7th place, seven points behind with two games in hand.

Heys recent form has been good with four wins in the last five, that has seen them climb back into contention after a miserable November.

However, they need to now maintain that form as they start what is the second half of their League programme. Lyons believes his side under achieved in the first half of the season and has set his players a target of play offs at least.

He has been more than pleased with recent performances and will demand the levels shown be maintained starting with this tricky trip to a Silsden side whom Heys beat 2-0 at Adie Moran Park in August courtesy of two Paul Tierney goals.

The latter was one of six players missing from the New Year win over St. Helens who will come back into contention for Saturday.

Heys Reserves have been inactive for the last month but will hope to return to action at Breightmet (2pm).

During their inactivity their lead at the top of the Manchester League Division One table has been cut to three points but they have three games in hand on their closest challengers Heyside and Atherton Town.

Tony Hanson’s’ side were in a rich vein of form prior to their break with three successive away wins and will hope to pick up where they left off ahead of a six match run that sees them face many of their closest challengers.

Breightmet come into the game in 15th place with 23 points from 18 games having slipped down the table after a run of five successive defeats that was halted by a 3-3 draw at Heywood St. James last weekend.

Breightmet play at Moss Park, Back Bury Road, Breightmet, Bolton, Lancashire BL2 6NY
