Trip to CMB Sports this Saturday

Heys travel to CMB Sports on Saturday in the Lancashire Shield 2nd round (2pm).

After a disappointing start to the league campaign Jon Lyons will be hoping that knockout football can not only deliver results but lift confidence to kick start a climb up the league table.

Heys defeated West Lancashire League Division One side Hawcoat Park 3-0 in the 1st round but had some anxious moments before taking control in the second half. They now face opposition from a division lower but will have to be on their guard.

The West Lancashire League Division Two side were surprise winners at Heys Premier Division rivals Wythenshawe Amateurs in the 1st round.

Trailing 3-1, going into the closing stages, they capitalised on Wythenshawe having a man sent off to score two late goals and take the match to penalties. In the shootout CMB won 6-5.

CMB, originally part of the now defunct Cunnard Metal Box Sports Club, have made a good start to the season winning seven and losing two of their opening nine games to sit fourth in the table, two points behind the leaders Leyland United.

For those intending to travel their ground is: CMB Sports Ground, Tempest Road, Lostock
Bolton BL6 4ER

The winners of the tie will be at home in the 3rd round to GSK Ulverston or Burscough Richmond or Ladybridge.

Ulverston and Burscough’s 1st round tie was abandoned with the latter leading 2-0 following alleged abuse of the referee from the home team dugout.

Heys are the only side of last year semi-finalists still in the competition. The holders Thornton Cleveleys were knocked out by the odd goal in eleven by Royton Town who now face a tough trip to Liverpool to face Collegiate Old Boys, a side Heys defeated last year.
