Gregorians visit with Heys in sight of the title

It’s 1st v 2nd at Adie Moran Park on Saturday as Heys Reserves host Manchester Gregorians Reserves (2pm.)

Gregs are one of the form teams in the competition at the moment with just one defeat in their last seven games.

It’s a run that has taken them to second place but with only Saturday’s game remaining their title hopes have gone.

Nonetheless, with 6-1 wins over AVRO and Springhead in that run Gregs will arrive with no shortage of confidence as they look to end their season with a bang.

Heys stand two wins short of the title and have led the way for much of the season. Whilst recent performances have been a little patchy Jeff Kavanagh’s side have kept picking up the results and their hopes were further boosted on Tuesday night when Wythenshawe Amateurs, who have challenged all season, were beaten 3-0 at Springhead.

It means that a win for Heys on Saturday would end Wythenshawe’s hopes completely whilst also meaning that the only other two sides who can pass them, Rochdale Sacred Heart and Stockport Georgians, would have to win all of their remaining games.

Ironically, both teams travel to Springhead in their next fixtures and the Heys boys will be hoping the Lees outfit can do them another couple of favours.

However, with five games left the way is open for Heys to go and finish the job they started back in August. If they do that it will not matter what anyone else does.

They can be under no illusions about the challenge they face on Saturday, however. When Heys and Gregs met just prior to Xmas at Platt Lane they produced a high quality treat, sharing the points in a 3-3 draw.

With the finishing line in sight and no first team game this weekend then come down and get behind the lads and push them closer to the title.

Admission is FREE.
