Reserves topple the Champions

Heys stuttering start to the season continued as they were held 1-1 at Atherton Town today.

The draw leaves Heys fourth from bottom and in need of a morale boosting win to kick start their campaign.

It looked like the three points maybe heading their way this afternoon where they were the better team in the first half of an often scrappy encounter.

Although possession was even, all the threat came from Heys who had a Conor Landers ruled out for a questionable offside and saw a Chris Denham shot tipped over before taking the lead in the 20th minute.

Landers and Denham were both to the fore with Landers bundled over in the box and Denham slamming home the penalty.

Heys had other chances but undid all their work on the stroke of half time when sloppy play gave Dale Grimes a clear sight of goal which he accepted with a low shot.

Erike Sousa went close with a header and Danny Eyres had an effort ruled out for offside at the start of the second half but the greater threat emerged from the hosts.

A superb point blank range save from Rob Sadler kept Heys level and although Gareth Walsh saw a header cleared off the line it took a great block by Grant Mody in the last minute to save his side from defeat.

Heys Reserves made it six from six with their most impressive victory yet - 3-0 at home to the Champions Rochdale Sacred Heart.

Goals from Matt Jolly, Sam Ingram and an Abid Uddin penalty maintained Jeff Kavanagh,s side 100% record.
