Reserves edge nearer the title

A 20th minute Lewis Smith header proved decisive as Heys got back to winning ways with a 1-0 win at Springhead today.

On a terrible playing surface Heys had to battle all the way for the points which keep them top of the table and on course for promotion.

Heys dominated the opening half but had only Smith's header, from a penetrating George Powell free kick, to show for their efforts.

In the second half Springhead penned Heys back for long periods but they defended superbly with Smith and Phil Woodcock particularly dominant under an aerial bombardment.

Late in the game Heys had several chances to finish the match off but spurned them all but came through a nervous five minutes of added time to claim three massive points.

Their was an equally important win for the Reserves as they beat AVRO 3-2 at Adie Moran Park.

Two goals from Valdes Travares after an early Joe Newton strike gave them the points that put them within three wins of the title.
