Reserves march on at AVRO

Heys bounced back to winning ways with an ultimately comfortable 3-0 home success over Hawcoat Park in the Lancashire Shield 1st round today.

After a tight opening half, Heys led 1-0 but in the second half they took complete control to book an away trip to CMB Westhoughton in the next round.

In a sometimes bad tempered first half Heys led through a Chris Denham goal in the 16th minute and showed flashes of the football they are capable of.

However, there was also a nervousness about Jon Lyons' side and Rob Sadler pulled off three fines saves to deny the West Lancashire League visitors.

The second half proved an altogether different tale though as Heys dominated the Barrow side throughout.

They increased their lead on the hour with a superb headed goal from Erike Sousa after a great cross from Paul Tierney and went onto create numerous chances.

However, it was not until the 84th minute that they put the game to bed when Conor Landers, marked his return from injury, as he broke clear from a Gareth Walsh through ball to slide a shot under the 'keeper.

CMB were surprise penalty shoot out winners at Wythenshawe Amateurs after a 3-3 draw in 90 minutes. The 1st round also saw last years winners Thornton Cleveleys go out 6-5 at Royton. Indeed of last years semi finalists only Heys remain, with Rochdale Sacred Heart losing to Manchester Gregorians and Blackpool Wren Rovers going out on penalties at home to Slyne with Hest.

Heys Reserves maintained their 100% start to the season with a 5-2 win at AVRO.

They were made to fight all the way by their hosts who led 2-1 at the interval but goals from Steve Charles, Matt Jolly, Liam Dunn, Mark Westhead and Martin Love, in his first outing of the season, secured another three points.
