Lee double fires title challenge

The win puts Jeff Kavanagh’s side within a point of leaders Wythenshawe Amateurs on whom they have two games in hand.

Heys Reserves ended a run of four successive draws and got their title challenge back on track with an emphatic 6-0 win at Hollinwood.

The win puts Jeff Kavanagh’s side within a point of leaders Wythenshawe Amateurs on whom they have two games in hand.

There was an early scare when the hosts were awarded a penalty but having conceded it, Heys ‘keeper Jack O’Brien made amends with a smart save.

From then on Heys never looked back. Callum Lee and Martin Love struck in rapid succession to open a two goal lead which they took into the interval.

It was one way traffic in the second half. An own goal from a Mark Westhead corner made it three before Lee tapped in from close range from a Chris MacKay corner.

Top scorer Steve Charles then added his fifth for his 23rd goal of the season.

Full Back Ashley Oparah got forward to score Heys sixth but the action was still not complete.

In the closing moments manager Kavanagh entered the fray, was brought down for a penalty, which he took, only for the ‘keeper to save.

Nonetheless, it could not take the gloss off a great afternoon’s work for him and his side.
