Prestwich derby ends all square

A Ryan McGreevy goal four minutes from time gave Heys a 3-3 home draw with neighbours Prestwich FC in the Kenyon Cup tonight.

The close season signing from Irlam Town latched onto a Martin Love header to round the 'keeper and walk the ball into the net to earn Heys a point to keep their hopes of progress to the quarter finals alive.

However, Heys boss Jon Lyons will reflect that there is work to be done after a largely lacklustre showing against an impressive Prestwich side.

Indeed the visitors were the better side throughout the first half. They started at a lively pace and played some good football to pen Heys back and it came as little surprise when Kieron Comiskey put them ahead in the 19th minute, hooking the ball home from close range.

Showing greater urgency and desire Prestwich increased their lead in the 25th minute. Two challenges were won in the middle of the park and when the ball was worked to Daniel McHugh his shot from the edge of the area took a deflection on it's way into the net.

The goal succeeded in sparking Heys into life and they pulled one back on the half hour when a Chris McKay through ball released Erike Sousa down the middle and he steered past the advancing 'keeper.

Heys could have been infront by the interval as McKay hit the post and Sandgate Road saw the rarest of events - Martin Love missed a penalty -his effort being saved.

Hopes of maintaining the momentum at the start of the second half were dashed within four minutes of the restart when Chris Bushby put Prestwich 3-1 up.

However, there was more pace and urgency about Heys in the second period and they pulled a goal back just after the hour when a concerted spell of passing culminated in Jamie Treanor steering home from the edge of the area.

Heys continued to enjoy the greater possession but Prestwich maintained a real threat when ever they broke forward.

Against tiring legs McGreevy levelled and one sensed Heys make take the spoils but the visitors spirit saw them almost gain the victory with a timely clearance from Phil Woodcock and a fine late save from Sadler preserving a point.
