Tuesday night victory at Adie Moran Park

report by Tony Greenhouse

Heys warmed up for Saturday’s FA Cup tie with a 2-0 friendly win over Maine Road at Adie Moran Park last night.

After the heavy defeat at Longridge on Saturday this was a chance to work on a few things and give match time to players who have either not figured or had little match time so far this season.

The performance was a complete opposite from last Saturday’s loss. From the kick off Heys were on the attack as wingers Rio Wilson-Heyes and Mike Itela caused problems whilst Jordan Icely gave an impressive showing in the middle of the park on his first outing of the season.

The opening goal was on the back of some good play by Itela who cut in from the right and from the edge of the box hit a shot that rattled the crossbar, dropping down for the incoming Chris Baguley (pictured) who hit the ball high in to the roof of the net.

Heys kept the visitors on the back foot with some impressive play, continually attacking and breaking the oppositions play down as they went in at the interval a goal to the good.

The second half continued as the first half had done with Heys putting pressure on the Maine Road goal.

Bruce, who was making his first appearance of the season, was replaced by Jamie Baguley and midway through the half Heys increased their lead.

As the ball dropped on the edge of the area, Jamie Baguley hit a low left foot shot inside the post.

The game continued in the same vein with Heys attacking the visitors whose occasional attacks were dealt with comfortably by the Heys defence.

The game was a good chance to have to have a view of which players that are available for the coming FA Cup game this Saturday against Radcliffe at HOME with a 12-30 PM KO.
