Saturday 15th April, Adie Moran Park, 3pm

Heys welcome Charnock Richard to Adie Moran Park on Saturday afternoon. (3pm)

The clubs were both promoted to the Hallmark Security League Last Summer and have both enjoyed good campaigns, finding themselves in a keenly contested promotion hunt with eight teams vying for the three spots on offer.

Charnock have their sights set on an automatic promotion spot. Quick out of the traps in the early part of the season their form dipped a little around the turn of the year but they are finishing the season strongly and have gone eight games unbeaten, including an 8-0 home win over Holker on Tuesday night.

That sequence also includes a 5-2 home win over Heys at the end of last month. After taking an early 2-0 lead, goals from Adam Nuttall and Jamie Baguley brought Heys level going into the last fifteen minutes.

However, a strong finish by Charnock saw them score three times to record a victory in which the prolific Carl Grimshaw, the Divisions’ second highest goal scorer, scored twice.

Heys hopes of going up appear to rest on clinching sixth place in the table, a berth they are in competition with Sandbach and Alsager to obtain.

The 3-2 midweek win at Bacup kept Heys in the play-off picture but Jon Lyons’ team know the margins for error are now tight if they are to gain promotion.

Wednesday night’s performance was much improved on that in Last Saturday’s defeat 1-0 at Atherton LR that left Jon Lyons seething. The Heys boss said “The performance at LR was the worst in my five years at the club. It was unacceptable. The players showed no heart and their attitude will have to change or they will be shown the door. However, we were better against Bacup but will need to improve again for the visit of Charnock”

Despite their recent dip in form Heys are the closest to the top six they have been but they need to put a run together as they enter a busy final fortnight that includes games against four of the top seven, away at City of Liverpool and at home to Sandbach and Whitchurch and of course Charnock.

Heys destiny is still in their own hands and they will be looking to gain three vital points on Saturday.
