4-0 Victory at Bolton County secures top spot in the group

Heys romped into the Kenyon Cup quarter finals with an emphatic 4-0 win at Bolton County tonight.

Needing a point to ensure qualification at kick off, the result was never in doubt with all Heys goals coming in the opening 32 minutes.

The result means Heys topped their group with Bolton, who went into the game with a 100% record, also going through as runners up.

From the start Heys were in control as they produced their best display of the pre-season campaign as some slick passing football ripped the home side apart.

It took only four minutes for them to open the scoring. Erike Sousa burst down the wing and when he crossed Darius Photiou forced a defender to put the ball in his own net.

Surprisingly, it was not until the 22nd minute that Heys increased their lead - but it was worth the wait. A superb passing move put Jamie Treanor in space and when he played the ball across the face of goal Chris Denham was on hand to slot home.

Three minutes later, Heys added a third. A deep cross from Dave McNally found Photiou, revelling in a new midfield role, and he placed a great header inside the far post.

The 32nd minute saw Heys put the game beyond doubt with a fourth goal. Chris McKay bamboozled the Bolton defence with some quick feet, leading to a free kick being awarded in the box after a back pass. From the kick McKay drilled the ball into the bottom corner.

From then on it came a case of how many Heys might score, but the home side held firm to the interval.

Heys made five changes in the second half and continued to play some good football, if not as clinica as they had been in the opening half.

Martin Love went close with Heys best chance but they were unable to maintain the momentum of the first half.

The hosts enjoyed some possession later in the game without troubling the Heys goal as Jon Lyons side eased into the last eight.

Team: Sadler, Woodcock, McNally, Photiou, Walters, Walsh, Sousa, J. Lyons, Treanor, Denham, McKay Subs: Love, McGreevy, G. Powell, Smith, Noble.
