4-1 win at Tottington sets up Gigg Lane date with Walshaw

Heys booked a Springtime trip to Gigg Lane as they won 4-1 at Tottington tonight in the semi-final of the Kenyon Cup.

Heys goals came from Greg Wills, who scored twice, Erike Sousa and an own goal as they booked a place in the Final where they will face league rivals Walshaw.

Jon Lyons' side had to do it the hard way however as they came from a goal behind against a Tottington side who played some good football and gave Heys some anxious moments.

Early on it looked like Heys pace would be telling as they stretched the hosts but in the 15th minute Tottington took the lead.

A defensive mix up saw Heys fail to deal with a through ball and Richard Woodward seized the opportunity to finish with a deft chip over Rob Sadler.

Indeed, the home side were creating the better openings, despite Heys possession and it took a good save from Sadler to prevent them going further behind.

However, in the 24th minute Heys levelled when Greg Wills sent a looping header over the 'keeper (pictured).

The match ebbed and flowed with little to choose between the sides but as the half wore on Heys looked increasingly threatening and on the stroke of half time they took the lead.

A superb cross from George Powell saw Wills again nip in to head home from close range.

Gareth Walsh saw a header ruled out for climbing in the early moments of the second half before Heys increased their lead in the 49th minute with a stunning goal.

Once again it owed much to a sublime Powell cross but the header from Erike Sousa was just as exquisite as it curled inside the far post giving the 'keeper no chance.

Heys had certainly upped the pace with Sousa leaving the home defence in tatters and from one such run and cross in the 55th minute a Tottington defender diverted the ball into his own net to effectively seal victory.

Team ; Sadler, Dunn, G. Powell, Photiou, Walsh, Woodcock, Sousa, Eyres, Tierney, Treanor, Wills Subs : Denham, Smith, McNally.

Heys have never won the competition and last contested the Final in thier Bury Amateur League days losing the 1952 Final at Gigg Lane, 2-0 to Radcliffe St. Thomas.
