Evo Stik visitors inflict heavy defeat

Heys suffered a heavy 7-0 defeat at home to an impressive Trafford side tonight.

The Evo Stik 1st Division North side showed no mercy to Jon Lyons side as some clinical finishing punished some slack play to the full in a torrid 1st half.

Although, Heys improved in the second period they could have few qualms about the result and will have much on which to ponder as the new season looms on the horizon.

It took only five minutes for the visitors to open the scoring as some slick play opened Heys up and McDonagh finished with a low shot.

Three minutes later some slack marking from a throw in allowed Derbyshire time and space and he punished Heys to the full with a blistering shot from 20 yards out.

Jamie Baguley saw a shot parried by the 'keeper and then headed just over from a Paul Tierney cross.

However, in between Trafford added a 14th minute third goal as Heys lost possession in their own half and McDonagh fired home.

Heys were struggling to compete but were often masters of their own downfall with some sloppy passing and ramshackle defence. The crossbar denied Spencer and Sadler then saved with his legs from McDonagh.

However, the Heys 'keeper had no chance on the half hour when Derbyshire produced another stunning finish to increase his side's lead.

Sadler produced another good save to deny Horrocks but on the stroke of half time McDonagh delivered another sublime finish to make it 5-0.

Heys started the second half in better fashion but were undone by another superb finish, this time from Nicky Platt, in the 58th minute.

To their credit Heys responded with some good possession football and went close through Adam Tse.

However, they were never able to match the incisiveness or clinical attacking play of Trafford who added a 7th goal in the 80th minute with a Lee Neville header.

Heys are unlikely to face a side of this quality in the League this season but will have to eradicate the flaws exposed tonight if they are to prosper when the serious action starts.
