3rd successive league win caps great week

Thoughts of a comeback were finally allayed in the 66th minute in stunning fashion when Wills picked a Denham cross out of the air to volley home.

Heys capped a great week for the club with an ultimately comfortable 5-1 victory at Rochdale Sacred Heart.

Against a lively home side Heys produced some fine football. However, they also had to show plenty of determination on a difficult pitch as they moved up to 7th in the table with a third successive win.

After a fast and furious opening quarter Heys took command with two goals in as many minutes.

First, Chris Denham scored from a cross come shot that the home 'keeper made a hash of in the 25th minute.

Then, Greg Wills (pictured) scored from close range after Conor Landers produced a cross from a seemingly lost cause to flat foot the home defence.

Heys had to withstand a lot of pressure from the home side in the early stages of the second half before they hit Hearts with a sucker punch third goal in the 53rd minute.

A Jon Lyons free kick was flicked on by Landers and Lewis Smith applied the decisive touch.

Rochdale refused to lie down though and Ben Fielding reduced the arrears with a header in the 57th minute and it then took a great save by Rob Sadler to prevent a second home strike,

However, thoughts of a comeback were finally allayed in the 66th minute in stunning fashion when Wills picked a Denham cross out of the air to volley home.

The latter completed the scoring in the 85th minute with a fine individual goal, dribbling through a series of challenges before practically walking the ball into the net.

After the hugely positive response to news of the North West Counties League application and planning permission being given for Dressing Rooms the win capped a great week for the club.

Let's hope Santa still has a few more goodies left in his sack!
