..but Reserves run riot at Walshaw

Heys were beaten 1-2 by Stockport Georgians in the opening game of the Manchester League season at Adie Moran Park today.

In a tight game, a fine individual goal by Georgians striker Sam Noar in the 71st minute ultimately proved decisive on a frustrating afternoon for Jon Lyons' side.

In a game that ebbed and flowed Georgians, who had earlier hit the bar, opened the scoring in the 43rd minute with a close range finish from Jamie Pickering.

Heys too had chances with Chris Denham seeing a shot saved at point blank range by Georgians 'keeper David Cash.

Cash contiuned to thwart Heys after the break with good saves to deny Paul Tierney, Erike Sousa and Denham again,

However, Heys were left with it all to do when Noar burst down the left before cutting inside and rifling the ball past Rob Sadler for the visitors second.

Indeed, it took a fine save from Sadler and the outside of the post to prevent Georgians adding to their lead.

Meanwhile, Cash contiuned to deny Heys at the other end with a finger tip save to thwart Chris MacKay before he got then got enough on a Denham shot to allow the ball to be cleared off the line.

Danny Eyres finally found a way through in the 90th minute with a close range finish but it was too late for Heys on afternoon when both teams showed plenty of the type of quality that suggesst they will challenge for honours this coming season.

Meanwhile, Heys Reserves made an explosive start to the new season with a 7-1 win at last years runner up Walsahw Sports.

Steve Charles netted a hat-trick whilst there was a brace for Abid Uddin. Matt Jolly and Rick Winstanley were also on the mark for Jeff Kavanagh's team.
