Early Paul Tierney strike keeps Heys in the hunt

Heys battled their way to a hard earned point as they drew 1-1 at Walshaw Sports tonight.

In a typically hard fought derby contest Jon Lyons' side had to dig deep before securing the point that keeps them firmly in the title hunt.

Heys made a dream start taking the lead after just five minutes. Conor Landers created confusion in the Walshaw defence and as the ball broke to Tierney he volleyed home from the edge of the area.

Rob Sadler had to make a couple of smart saves either side of that and although the hosts enjoyed more possession it was Heys who always looked most likely to score in the first period.

However, Walshaw took charge in the second period using the slope to their advantage to pen Heys back.

Heys defended well but their run of over 4 and half game games with out conceding a goal was ended in the 66th minute when Ryan Leeming seized on defensive hesitancy to head home from close range.

With the impetus at that point with the home side Heys had to dig in to keep them at bay and although there were a couple of close shaves they also came close themselves.

Landers hitt the outside of the post and only a last ditch clearance prevented Erike Sousa grabbing a last gasp winner.

The point keeps Heys fourth, five points behind leaders Royton with four games in hand.

Their next game is at home to Springhead next Wednesday night.
