Neil's notes from yesterday's Oswestry match programme

So, the season is up and running. The 1st team started with an emphatic 4-0 win against Cammell Laird. The team looked strong with the new additions and it should make for an interesting season, if we keep them all fit.

Monday night saw the second game, away at Stockport. A strange night, it was almost like a November evening with the wind and rain. Stockport have strengthened their team and had a lot of pace which caused us problems. They took the lead with an own goal but things evened themselves up shortly before half time with ourselves getting level, again with an own goal. Things looked promising for a competitive second half but Stockport came out blazing and we did not get going.

Today sees our visitors from Oswestry, who are most welcome and we look forward to an entertaining game.

The Reserves, who quite rightly took their place in the Manchester League Premier Division, took on Rochdale Sacred Heart away, who are the League Champions. Some people seem to think the league has gone backwards by allowing a reserve team into the league. But for me what is in a name, absolutely nothing. The Reserves came away with a 2-1 victory a very pleasing result. That was followed by a 1-0 midweek win against Bolton County, to put them second in the table

Today sees them away at AVRO. This will be a real test against Lee O’Brien and the lads from AVRO but hopefully we will come through with the points.

Off the pitch we are attracting some new sponsors including Bar188 in Whitefield and Relionus DIY and door centre at Heaton Park. Other signs going up around the ground are Grade 1 Mechanical Plant and Micro Connect who have both provided the club with security and safety equipment. There are also others on the horizon which will bring much needed funds in to finance the season.

It would be wrong of me not to mention and thank all the hard work from the volunteers at the club who without which we would not be able to operate and continue. Having said that we could always do with more assistance from willing volunteers or anyone who wishes to sponsor the club. There are plenty of opportunities available.

We still have a vacancy for a Physio for the 1st team. This is an important role which we want to fill so please get in touch if you are interested.

We are starting to attract more supporters, which is good to see. What better way to spend a Saturday afternoon with friends watching a game of football, enjoying a pint and not breaking the bank. 1st team home games are £5 adults, £3 concessions, under 16’s free (accompanied by an adult) and £2 gets you a decent read in the programme.

Reserve team games are £2 adults, £1 concessions, under 16s free (accompanied by an adult). Alternatively, Season tickets at £80 adult £50 concessions, are still available, which get you into 1st and Reserve home games and if purchased now will bring savings on normal match day admission.

Finally, a polite but important reminder that, that dogs are not allowed in the ground on match days and no one other than players, officials and subs are allowed on the pitch. It is a breach of ground regulations to do so.

Enjoy your afternoon and I hope to see you again and again. Support your local teams.
