Neil looks at the past and the present and how both can shape an exciting future

Well I can say that this last week has been a very busy one, making sure that everything was in place for the ground grading.

Not only the physical work being carried out around the ground, ready for the ground grading visit by members of the North West Counties and the Manchester League, but also the clerical side of things.

Making sure documentation is in place to progress, extension to planning for floodlights, club accounts and other documents were needed to support our application.

I must say all the efforts were worthwhile and the visit went very well. We now have to wait with baited breath to see the outcome.

It will be great to re-join the NW counties having been a founder member when it was formed in 1982, only to drop out in 1986 due to ground grading issues.

Well hopefully this is the start of all things good, putting Prestwich Heys back on the semi –pro map.

We are in this for the long haul and not just to make up the numbers, it has and will be a long journey, that may get bumpy at times, we are getting enquiries on a weekly basis from would be sponsors and players from far afield wanting to try us out.

So don’t watch from afar come down get involved watch from the touchline, be part of the journey.

Be part of the history, something to tell your children and grandchildren.

Like the heady days of success in the clubs history, picture the scene Saturday 21st February 1970 Prestwich Heys on the road, in the FA Amateur Cup 4th round.

Facing Enfield FC, just two games from playing at Wembley in the final, alas it was not to be Heys days, we were beaten 2-0 , Enfield went on to win the trophy beating Dagenham 5-0.

FA Cup 73-74, 78-79 and 1984-85 second qualifying round, lots of great history which we want to emulate.

Back to times a little nearer and Saturday saw a 7-1 victory against Atherton with Erike Sousa scoring a hat-trick.

The game was an away fixture which then bizarrely became our home fixture as we had managed to get an alternative venue to assist with the backlog of fixtures, but hey ho.

Other things that are happening and forming the club for the future is the formation of an under 18s and under 21s.

It is very exciting and in its infancy, who knows where it will take us.

Good luck to both teams as unfortunately I am not around this weekend.

Enjoy the race night at AMP on tonight, all credit to Karl Kavanagh for his hard work in arranging it.

Normal service will resume as I will be back in the week.

Bye for now and enjoy yourselves.

Neil
