Neil Gilmore's programme notes from today's postponed game with AFC Monton

Here we are again, I have to say it was pleasing to see the game go ahead against Boothstown, after all the rain we had.

Another good result, keeping the run going and again some tremendous passing football, that is pleasing on the eye. Players making space for each other, covering each other when required, playing as a team and working hard together and for each other.

The Reserves were away at Royton coming away with a 6-2 victory putting them nine points clear and continuing unbeaten. This week sees the Reserves away at Monton Reserves whilst the first team entertain Monton 1st team at Adie Moran Park.

It has been a testing time keeping the pitch in a playable condition, with all the rain we have had recently. The pump is working overtime to drain the water and Neil Sankey and myself replace the divots and repair the playing surface prior to cutting and marking it out.

It’s something that is very rewarding, especially when people comment on how good the pitch looks.

We seem to be getting a few more coming along to watch, hopefully this will continue to grow and become the norm, boosting the gate and takings in the clubhouse. As I keep saying everyone is welcome, we are a family club steeped in history, something which I want to continue way into the future.

Progression is the dream with the North West Counties to begin with, FA Vase then in the bag for the draw for the FA Cup. Just like our neighbours FC United who unfortunately went out to Chesterfield.

Salford City from just down the road put on a tremendous performance and blew Notts County away, to progress into the next round with a home tie against Hartlepool. Good luck to all connected with the club, I hope you continue in the FA cup and get a big draw.

How ironic would it be a Salford City v Man United draw, where would the class of 92’s loyalties lie, especially a certain Mr Giggs?

Anyway enough rambling and dreaming. Back to today's game. Hello to Monton and their fans, you are most welcome. I am sure we are in for an enjoyable and entertaining game.

Thanks for your support
Neil Gilmore
