A significant Saturday lies ahead for Jon Lyons men

There can scarcely have been a more significant day in Heys history as that which they will face on Saturday.

In the morning they will face their final ground grading for the North West Counties League. A positive outcome will mean a huge box ticked and a return to the semi pro ranks will be closer than ever.

Heys must also finish in the top five of course and in the afternoon they will face one of their oldest rivals as they travel to Stockport Georgians.

The sides have had many significant meeting over the years and for both Saturday is a huge game.

Georgians are presently third in the table but with their games in hand on all around them are presently the favourites to land the title.

Four points separate them and Heys but they do have six games in hand on Jon Lyons’ men.

Nonetheless, the run in to the end of season can have a strange effect. This time last season Heys found themselves in a similar position but the busy run in caught up with them and they missed out on the honours.

First and foremost in Jon Lyons’ mind though will be Heys needs. Secure that top five spot and then take it from there.

Both sides go into the game with identical recent records, with four wins in the last six. Both have also lost at Walshaw in the past month and the Bury side will be looking for further slippage on Saturday to enhance their title ambitions.

The teams last met on the Opening Day of the season with Georgians winning a tight contest 2-1 at Adie Moran Park. A similar encounter looks on the cards on Saturday.
