Heys secure the Premier Division crown with victory over Wythenshawe Amateurs

HEYS ARE CHAMPIONS!

Jon Lyons side secured the Premier Division crown with a 3-0 win over Wythenshawe Amateurs at Adie Moran Park tonight.

They were made to work hard by a resolute Wythenshawe side who defended superbly to keep Heys at bay until the 60th minute.

When the break through came it was from an unlikely source. Ash Reece, who has played as a right back throughout the season, revelled in a more advanced role after coming on as substitute.

His 25 yard shot took a deflection but broke the deadlock and gave him his first goal of the season.

With the visitors resistance broken Heys added a second three minutes later. A cross into the box ricocheted around before Greg Wills poked home from six yards.

With the title in the bag, the seal was put on victory in the 84th minute. Dalton McLaughlin has delivered some real moments of magic this season and obliged again with a superb clipped, curling shot from 25 yards out that beat the 'keeper all ends up.

And so after a nine year wait Heys are Champions once again. It's been a rocky ride at times but the Heys fires kept on burning - determined to bring the glory days back.

This was a triumph for Jon Lyons who took over four and half years ago with Heys ten points adrift at the foot of the table with half the season left. From the great escape to Champions.

The smiles on the faces of generations of Heysians tonight said it all. And in celebrating the success lets also remember those who played their part who sadly are no longer with us, who will be smiling down tonight.

Salute the Champions!!
