BRANDON Jolly's second half hat-trick earned Heys the three points against a determined Breightmet United at a foggy Moss Park on Saturday.
Earlier, 'cereal' goal-scorer Mat Jolly levelled Breightmet's opener as Liam Morrissey's men notched up back-to-back wins for the first time since August.
Last Saturday’s fog had put a lot of fixtures in doubt but the officials at Moss Park were satisfied that the gloom had lifted sufficiently to get the game underway.
Second-bottom United started well and gained an early advantage when a corner was converted off the crossbar in the 19th minute.
Jonathan Little looked to get Heys back on level terms on the half-hour but sent his shot over the Breightmet crossbar.
However, Heys didn’t have to wait long to get their equaliser as Kieran Watson’s goal-kick was misjudged by a defender allowing Mat Jolly to nip in and lift the ball over the advancing ‘keeper for his 15th goal of the season.
Heys could have turned the game on its head almost immediately when Mat Jolly found an upright with a shot before a chance on the rebound was charged down by a panicked United defence.
After the break, Heys continued to press and were rewarded in the 52nd minute when Martin Pilkington’s free-kick found Brandon Jolly who’s left foot shot fizzed in to the top corner.
And on the hour, Prestwich made it three as Pilkington and Brandon linked up again as the midfielder’s chested lay-off set Brandon clear to lob the keeper from the edge of the box.
With Heys thinking the game was won, United pulled a second goal back on 80 minutes when an effort was adjudged to have cross the line by the assistant referee.
Sensing a share of the spoils, Breightmet pushed for an equaliser but in doing so, left themselves venerable to a Heys counter-attack.
And when Brandon raced through to find the corner and restore Heys’ two-goal cushion, the points were surely safe.
But to the home side’s credit, they continued to look for ways back in to the game and managed to reduce the deficit again in the 88th minute.
Heys weren’t to be denied their win though and played down the remaining moments to seal the three points.
HEYS: Watson, Monks, Cunningham, Powell, D Murray, Cutler, L Murray (Barker), Pilkington, B Jolly (3) (Taylor), M Jolly (1), Little (Morris)
• Heys welcomed back Wilf Davidson to Sandgate Road on Monday night. Mr Davidson was elected on to the committee as Vice-President and is looking forward to helping the club progress and to assisting with the re-development plans for their Sandgate ground.
• Heys Reserves suffered a three-nil defeat at home to Elton Vale Reserves on Saturday. The loss leaves Dave Risby’s side in eleventh place in Division Two with 16 point from 12 games played.
• Heys entertain Royton Town at Sandgate Road this Saturday afternoon. Liam Morrissey’s men will be looking to make it three wins in a row against 5th placed Town where another maximum could see Heys move up to sixth in the league.
