PRESTWICH Heys kept up their unbeaten start to the season with an impressive 3-0 win at Stockport Georgians on Tuesday night.
Second half goals from Daniel Murray, Mat Jolly and Matthew Hoggard gave Heys the points and moves them up to sixth in the Premier Division table ahead of Saturday’s visit of Rochdale Sacred Heart.
In an even opening period, Prestwich were first to threaten when Daniel Murray’s effort was saved following brother Liam’s centre.
Paul Murphy in the Heys goal was equal to a Georgians effort on 20 minutes before Mat Jolly sent the best chance of the half in to the Stockport side netting shortly after.
The home side went close with a chance sent over the crossbar on the half hour as Daniel Murray’s turn and shot was easily collected minutes later.
Ashley Oparah’s powerful shot was parried and cleared just before the break as Heys finished the half strongly.
The deadlock was broken ten minutes after the restart when Oparah’s powerful drive from the edge of the box got the faintest of touches off Daniel Murray to divert the ball home.
Following his midweek transfer from Dukinfield Town, midfielder Peter Sidebottom made his Heys debut on the hour, coming on for the hard working Anthony Cutler.
The home side continued to probe the Heys defence but couldn’t get any real clear chances on Murphy’s goal.
And when Heys doubled their lead on 80 minutes, the game was up for the Stockport side as Mat Jolly rounded the ‘keeper and slid home from the tightest of angles.
Then with only minutes remaining, sub’ Michael Hoggard put the icing on the cake for Heys as he slammed home the third after good build up play between Jolly and Oparah.
